Readiness for the Academy
Preschool readiness is a key step in helping your child thrive in our Montessori environment. Below are general guidelines for determining readiness:
Physical
- Generally healthy and has stamina for the school day
- Displays emerging fine motor skills (can hold crayons or utensils)
Social and Emotional Development
- Fully toilet-trained and independent in bathroom use (No diapers, pull-ups or training underwear. Sterling staff are not licensed for diaper changes.)
- Able to separate from parents and engage with peers
- Can feed and dress self, follow directions, and manage frustration
- Can sustain attention for a short picture book or teacher-led lesson
Language & Communication
- Can express needs or feelings in simple words
Work Habits
- Comfortable with routines and able to transition smoothly
- Capable of following directions and maintaining focus
